A cognitive architecture for music perception exploiting conceptual spaces

2015

A cognitive architecture for a musical agent is presented. The architecture extends and complete an architecture for computer vision previously developed by the author by taking into account many relationships between vision and music perception. The focus of the agent architecture is an intermediate conceptual area between the subconceptual and linguistic areas. A conceptual space for the perception of tones and intervals is thus presented, based on the dissonance measure of the tones. Problems and future works of the proposed approach are finally discussed.

Building emotional agents for strategic decision making

2015

Experimental economics has many works that demonstrate the influence of emotions and affective issues on the process of human strategic decision making. Personality, emotions and mood produce biases on what would be considered the strategic solution (Nash equilibrium) to many games. %CAMBIO% Thus considering these issues on simulations of human behavior may produce results more aligned with real situations. We think that computational agents are a suitable %CAMBIO% technology to simulate such phenomena. We propose to use O3A, an Open Affective Agent Architecture to model rational and affective agents, in order to perform simulations where agents must take decisions as close as possible to h…

Integrating miniMin-HSP agents in a dynamic simulation framework

2004

In this paper, we describe the framework created for implementing AI-based animations for artificial actors in the context of IVE (Intelligent Virtual Environments). The minMin-HSP (Heuristic Search Planner) planner presented in [12] has been updated to deal with 3D dynamic simulation environments, using the sensory/actuator system fully implemented in UnrealTM and presented in [10]. Here, we show how we have integrated these systems to handle the necessary balance between the reactive and deliberative skills for 3D Intelligent Virtual Agents (3DIVAs). We have carried out experiments in a multi-agent 3D blocks world, where 3DIVAs will have to interleave sensing, planning and execution to be…

A Direct Approach to Robot Soccer Agents: Description for the Team Mainz Rolling rains Simulation League of RoboCup ’98

1999

In the team described in this paper we realize a direct approach to soccer agents for the simulation league of the RoboCup '98- tournament. Its backbone is formed by a detailed world model. Based on information which is reconstructed on the world model level, the rule-based decision levels chose a relevant action. The architecture for the goalie is different from the regular players, introducing heterogeneousness into the team, which combines the advantages of the different control strategies.

A Hybrid Agent Model, Mixing Short Term and Long Term Memory Abilities

1999

We present in this paper a novel approach for the modeling of agents able to react and reason under highly dynamic environments. A hybrid agent architecture is described, which allows to integrate the capacity to react rapidly to instantaneous changes in the environment with the capacity to reason more thoroughly about perceptions and actions. These capacities are implemented as independent processes running concurrently, and exploiting different memorizing abilities. Only a short-term memory is made available to reactive agents, whilst long-term memorizing abilities together with the possibility to reason about incomplete information is provided to cognitive agents. This model is currently…

Social Psychology Of Persuasion Applied To Human-agent Interaction

2008

A bstract: This paper discusses and evaluates the application of a social psychologically enriched, user-centered approach to agent architecture design. The major aim is to facilitate human‐agent interaction () by making agents not only algorithmically more i ntelligent but also socially more skillful in communicating with the user. A decision-making model and communicative argumentation strategies have been incorporated into the agent architecture. In the presented content resource management experiments, enhancement of human task performance is demonstrated for users that are supported by a persuasive agent. This superior performance seems to be rooted in a more trusting collaborative rel…

A general theoretical framework for designing cognitive architectures: Hybrid and meta-level architectures for BICA

2012

In this paper, we will discuss hybrid architectures in which different processing modules coexist and cooperate in a principled way. A fundamental and essential role is played by modules performing meta-computation, i.e., computation about computation itself. Meta-level architectures, therefore, become an essential complement of hybrid architectures for biologically inspired cognitive architectures (BICA). Engineering and modeling BICAs is a hard task due to the lack of techniques for developing and implementing their features. We propose a new concept of intelligent agent as a useful abstraction for developing BICAs and having means for representing all the involved entities together with …

A Neural Multi-Agent Architecture for an Autonomous Mobile Robot Control

1999

The aim of this paper is to introduce a multi-agent architecture for an autonomous robot control oriented to obtain high design modularity and high parallelism of decision processes. A multi-agent approach allows us to design several specialized agents and each of them is optimized in order to solve a single part of the whole task. Each agent is able to cooperate with other agent exchanging information, so the robot is able to make the appropriate policy of management to reach a prefixed goal. We tested the proposed architecture with a simple application: an autonomous mobile robot performs object retrieval tasks into unknown structured environments. The robot is not given a priori map of t…

AN AGENT BASED ARCHITECTURE FOR MANUFACTURING E-MARKETPLACES

2005

This chapter presents the Agent Based Architecture developed within the research project, titled "Process and Production Planning in manufacturing Enterprise Networks". As mentioned in Chapter 1, the architecture has been developed to support “added value services” in neutral linear e-marketplaces, i.e. in virtual districts. In this chapter the architecture will be described from a functional and dynamic point of view by using the formalisms used in the project. In particular, from a functional perspective, the architecture is described by using the IDEF0 formalism, while its dynamics are specified by UML activity diagrams.
